My intent was to create a course for dog guardians, not other trainers. Which means I break down the process into bite size steps that you can easily follow along using the videos and checklists.
First, you have life time access, it never expires. You don’t need to rush through the process and just take your time. How long it takes to achieve your goals will depend on a few factors such as previous experience, how quickly they learn, how you follow the steps and the tool you use.
Ever hear the phrase, “can’t teach an old dog new tricks”? Well, it’s a total lie. Any dog, at any age can learn. Even with some trauma in their past.
Access to the course also includes access to our exclusive Facebook group where you can ask questions and share your training journey with fellow students. I am there to answer questions and I am always available for consults should you need more guidance.
Each lesson has an action step where I ask you to complete a small homework task, whether it’s sharing something in the group, printing out a worksheet and filling it it or getting yourself setup to be ready at any moments notice. This was a constant source of stress for me, because he doesn't tolerate going to the groomers, and his nails grow very quickly and are difficult to maintain with a scratch board. About a month into the course, we finally started trimming his nails by ourselves. But since we went rogue with distraction with cheese instead of the actual counter conditioning, we started seeing our pup get scared of and run away when we both sat down in front of him with the nail clippers and cheese. Since my husband was more comfortable with using the nail clippers, I used my knowledge I learned from this Happy Paws course to write up an extra slow process to help our dog feel more comfortable and opt into getting his nails trimmed. There's still some ways to go, but without a doubt I know we can get even more comfortable with the process. On our best day, my husband managed to clip 9 nails in one sitting without our dog getting up and leaving! No distraction, no deception.
